Child Care Services

The Ministry of Children and Youth Services sets the standards for day cares, family day homes, nursery schools and out of school programs that address the health, safety and well-being of pre-school children.

Central Alberta Child and Family Services Authority (CFSA) oversees the delivery of child care in our region and provides parents with a range of child care options. Regulated and approved child care programs are continually monitored to ensure established standards are met and the children's health, safety and well being are protected.

Our CFSA is responsible for:

  • licensing, monitoring and enforcing standards of care in day cares, nursery schools and out of school care programs.
  • ensuring that standards of care and operation are met and maintained in approved family day homes.
  • giving preschool children with special needs an opportunity to be included in the activities of child care services through Inclusive Child Care.
  • administering the Child Care Subsidy Program, including the Kin Care child care funding, to support low-income families with child care costs for their pre-school children attending licensed day care centres or approved family day homes. View or download the Kin Child Care brochure.

  • Recruitment and retention of staff
  • Assistance to low and middle income parents to pay for child care

The Creating Child Care Choices Initiative involves:

  • Enhancing current tools
  • Adding new tools
